This is some pretty exciting news!! Not only will we get Stana back on our screens, but the plot itself sounds very interesting!

Stana Katic is returning to television. The former Castle star is in final negotiations to play the lead in Absentia, a 10-episode straight-to-series crime thriller greenlighted by Sony Pictures Television Networks’ AXN.

Produced by Tel Aviv-based Masha Productions, the series will begin filming early next year for a 2017 premiere on AXN’s worldwide channels. Sony Pictures Television will handle distribution in the U.S., where the show is yet to be shopped, and outside of AXN’s channel footprint.

Written/executive produced by Matt Cirulnick (South Beach), based on a pilot script originally written by Gaia Violo, Absentia centers on an FBI agent, to be played by Katic. While hunting one of Boston’s most notorious serial killers, the FBI agent disappears without a trace and is declared dead. Six years later, she is found in a cabin in the woods, barely alive and with no memory of the years she was missing. Returning home to learn her husband has remarried and her son is being raised by another woman, she soon finds herself implicated in a new series of murders.

Oded Ruskin, known for the hit Israeli series False Flag, will direct all ten episodes of the series. Riskin also will produce with Masha TV’s Maria Feldman (Homeland, False Flag), Ruskin and Julie Glucksman.

Absentia is the perfect blend of crime thriller and character-driven drama for the AXN audience,” said Marie Jacobson, EVP, Programming and Production at Sony Pictures TV Networks. “With a strong lead, Matt’s writing, and Oded’s direction, we have a signature series packed with suspense, surprise and emotional turns that feels distinctly AXN, and has great global potential,” said Jacobson.

Sony’s AXN networks broadcast in Latin America, Asia, Africa and Europe, with a programming slate focused on action, crime and mystery.  The networks’ most recent drama series commissions include Hannibal, starring Mads Mikkelsen and Hugh Dancy, and Crossing Lines, with Donald Sutherland and Goran Visnjic.

Katic is coming off an eight-season stint as fan-favorite Kate Beckett on ABC’s Castle, which earned her three People’s Choice Awards. Her most recent feature, The Rendezvous, just had a special screening at the Mill Valley Festival. Katic, who also produces through her own company, Sine Timore Films, is repped by Gersh and Principal Entertainment LA.

No mention of Stana in this article, but the creator of Bookaboo has promised more info about Stana’s episode towards the middle of October.

Hit British preschool series Bookaboo is heading to Amazon. The streaming service announced today that the original kids series will premiere on Amazon October 28 on Prime Video in the U.S. and UK.

The series, created by Lucy Goodman of Happy Films and produced by Happy Films and Sinking Ship Entertainment (Odd Squad, Annedroids), celebrates the fun and benefits of adults and children reading together, combining puppetry, live action and CGI animation. Each episode features a different celebrity guest, who goes “backstage” to share their favorite picture book with Bookaboo, the adorable world-famous drummer puppy and star of the show who needs to be read a book a day or he just can’t play.

The series follows Bookaboo as he tours the globe with his bandmates Paws and Growler, playing drums to packed stadiums of adoring fans. There’s only one hitch – Bookaboo just can’t play without a story a day! The precocious pup finds creative ways to avoid performing, leading to laugh-out-loud comedy sketches and silly songs. To empower Bookaboo to return to the stage, a famous face appears in each episode to share a favorite story. The picture book that the celebrity guest brings in the special “bookabag” is brought to life through animation and an interactive, energetic reading that restores Bookaboo’s “bojo.”

“Bookaboo is an exciting show developed to promote literacy by inspiring parents to read to and with their children and help instill a lifelong love of reading,” said Tara Sorensen, Head of Kids Programming at Amazon Studios. “Each episode incorporates funny storytelling and great books, specifically chosen to capture young viewers’ attention and imagination.”

“We’re thrilled to be working with Amazon Prime Video to bring Bookaboo and its important message to families all across the country,” said Goodman. “With only half as many parents reading to their kids as there were a generation ago, the time to make a difference is now. Every child should have the opportunity to share great books with someone they love.”

Bookaboo, which premiered in the UK in 2009, has aired on CITV in the UK, CBC in Canada and ABC2 in Australia.

Sister Cities, the independent film Stana worked on last year, will have the world premiere on July 29th at Traverse City Film Festival in Michigan. The run time is 87 minutes and tickets go on sale July 10th. Stana plays the oldest sister Carolina, and the film also stars Jess Weixler, Michelle Trachtenberg, Troian Bellisario, Jacki Weaver, Amy Smart, Alfred Molina and Kaia Gerber. Hopefully we’ll get more info on distribution after the film premieres.

In this twisty and finely-observed family drama of Chekhovian simplicity, four estranged and wildly different sisters—each named after the city they were born in—are called home following the death of their mother. Free-spirited force of nature Mary Baxter lived a whirlwind life, and left her daughters adrift in her wake. After they arrive for Mary’s funeral, a raging storm traps them together in the house. Clashes ensue, old flames reappear, vodka is consumed, memories are triggered, and secrets bubble up, forcing them to confront the things they love about each other, and the things they’d just as soon forget. By turns awkward, funny, and moving, much like real-life family reunions, the fiery and forceful women at the film’s center give this American dramedy a winning appeal. Featuring an all-star cast including Jackie Weaver (“Silver Linings Playbook“), Stana Katic (“Castle”), Troian Bellisario (“Pretty Little Liars”), Michelle Trachtenberg, and TC’s own Amy Smart, we are excited to play host to this film’s world premiere. In Person: Director Sean Hanish; Actress Amy Smart.

Stana’s definitely staying busy this summer. Not long after wrapping on The Rendezvous, she got busy on another project. She’s currently filming Sister Cities, a movie based on the play by Colette Freedman. You can read a synopsis of the play below, and it’s been confirmed that Stana is playing Carolina, the oldest sister. She is described as forty, a hard-driving lawyer, and recently divorced. Though I don’t see how Stana can pull off a 40 year old. The other sisters will be played by Michelle Trachtenberg, Jess Weixler and Troian Bellisario. The movie is directed by Sean Hanish. Make sure to follow the official Twitter page and you can read the play on Indie Theater.

Based on the internationally acclaimed play by Colette Freedman, Sister Cities tells the story of four estranged sisters who reunite for their mother’s alleged suicide.

Mary Baxter has had an enviable life – a dancer who married young and never looked back as she traveled the world and moved from one marriage to the next. Four husbands gave her four daughters, each of whom are as different from each other as the cities they were named after. When Mary dies, her live-at-home daughter, Austin, calls her three sisters to return to their childhood home for what appears to be a wake; yet when they discover mom’s still in the tub, the siblings quickly retreat into their childhood roles.

As a raging storm traps them inside their island home with their dead mother, the women’s fragile facades begin to crack as they share memories, play Scrabble, and drink a lot of vodka. Their bickering escalates, until finally Austin can’t hold back any longer and confesses that their mother had ALS and that her suicide was really a planned death. Her sisters are furious and want to turn her into the police.

Austin pleads that her sisters have no idea what she’s been going through in care taking of their mother. To prove it, she secretly poisons her older sister Carolina – giving her a drug, which paralyzes the body but leaves the mind alert.

Old animosities and new secrets continue to surface as the sisters panic that Carolina has been drugged for too long. Finally, she emerges from the paralysis. Her time spent immobile and dependent sways her opinion and she confesses that she would have done the same thing. Just as the police arrive to examine the body, and Austin faces the possibility of arrest, the sisters unite to take care of their own, finally understanding the true meaning of family.

EXCLUSIVE: Stana Katic (Castle) and Raza Jaffrey (Homeland) will star in Sundance award-winning director Amin Matalqa’s action adventure The Rendezvous. Inspired by classic romantic capers as North By Northwest and Romancing The Stone, the film is an adaptation of Sarah Isaias’ book A New Song. Set in Jordan, the film recently wrapped principal photography on location there. Terrel Seltzer (One Fine Day) has written the script, which follows an unlikely pair who find themselves swept up in a deadly race to find a sacred Dead Sea Scroll hidden in the ancient city of Petra. The film is produced by Dan Halsted (Garden State) and Tricia Gibbs. Amanda Rohlke is exec producing. Alfonso Bassave, Ron Guttman, Glenn Fleshler, Darby Stanchfield, and Nadim Sawalha round out the cast. Stana Katic and Raza Jaffrey are repped by Gersh/ Principal Entertainment LA.

Matalqa, who is of Jordanian descent, has proven himself to be a prolific filmmaker and one equally comfortable in Hollywood and the Arab world. He directed Disney’s first (and only) Arabic language feature The United in 2012 to follow on from his debut Captain Abu Raed, which won the World Cinema Audience Award at Sundance. He is also a participant in Disney/ABC’s 2014-2016 Directing Program, which offers an extensive series of seminars and mentoring sessions with the goal of nurturing promising directing talent among industry pros.

Stana shared the name of the movie she worked on over the summer, and we can finally announce that the official name of the movie is The Rendezvous. The film was shot in Jordan over the summer, with some final scenes being shot in Los Angeles, and begins post production soon. Thanks to the director Amin Matalqa, we also have some other information. He states that it’s an American film but that everyone will have access to see it. The film has drama, comedy, suspense, and action all brilliantly balanced by Stana and the cast, which include Raza Jaffrey, Meghann Cionni and Alfonso Bavasse. He says that fans of Stana will be extremely happy because this is HER movie and she is AMAZING. You can follow @AminMatalqa on twitter to receive the latest information. I’ve added some behind the scenes photos that members of the cast and crew have shared online over the past few weeks, which you can find at the link below.

In a post on Stana’s instagram yesterday, she said she begins rehearsals for a new film on Monday, so hopefully we get more information about that soon. We also know that Castle begins filming Season 8 on July 15th, so she’s definitely keeping herself busy this year!

Castle

The procedural starring Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic will be back for its eighth season. Fillion inked a new deal to return, and Katic — sources tell THR — is expected to close a new pact as well. Produced in-house by ABC Studios, Castle has been a sturdy performer for ABC on Mondays at 10 p.m. and still pulls 12.7 million viewers on a weekly basis. Rumors about the future of the series have swirled of late, with sources telling THRthat the veteran drama from Andrew Marlowe could return for an abbreviated final season. While it’s unclear if season eight will be Castle‘s last one thing is certain: showrunner David Amann, who took over for Marlowe in season seven, has exited.

Huge congratulations to Stana and Kris! I couldn’t be happier for them and wishing them nothing but the best in their marriage!

Stana Katic is now a married woman!

Over the weekend, the actress, best known for playing Kate Beckett on the ABC series “Castle,” married her longtime boyfriend, business efficiency consultant Kris Brkljac, in a ceremony at a private family monastery on the Dalmatian Coast. For those curious, the coast is located in beautiful Croatia, interestingly not too far from where another TV series in “Game of Thrones” films some of their scenes in Dubrovnik. Her rep sent CarterMatt a simple, but romantic photo, and you can take a look at that below.

Katic has kept her personal life quiet over the years, which has always been a delightfully Old Hollywood stance in a way. We live in an era now where almost everything about a celebrity’s personal life known and frequently shared through social media or news outlets, but she has been able to still maintain a private life. It is a simple reminder that this is still possible for celebrities today to only share what they want to share and keep the rest of their lives private.

“Castle” recently wrapped production on its seventh season, which is what has made it possible for Katic to travel and celebrate her wedding. There is obviously still some uncertainty over the show’s future, but there will be better chances to discuss that in the weeks ahead. For now, let’s just celebrate the big news coming out today from her personal life! Congratulations on your special day and may you have many years of happiness and joy ahead of you with your husband!
