Will Beckett Admit Her Feelings to Castle? Stana Katic Sure Hopes So

There is no one who wants Kate Beckett to admit her feelings for Castle more than the Canadian-born actress who plays her, Stana Katic.

Katic’s character, a NYPD Detective, got shot on the explosive Season 3 “Castle” finale, prompting mystery novelist Richard Castle (played by Edmonton native Nathan Fillion) to finally profess his love for her.

But on the Season 4 premiere, Beckett tells Castle from her hospital bed she doesn’t remember anything that happened between getting shot and waking up.

Katic, who hails from Hamilton, Ont., told CTV.ca it was a difficult scene to shoot, considering both she and her character knew it was a lie.

“In spite of me saying what I was saying to him, I was trying to tell him I cared for him and it was tough. It was a weird kind of duality,” she says with a laugh.

“It felt kind of like, ‘I can’t talk about this right now.’ It’s the reality of that moment. It felt like she was very much in love with him and so grateful that he cares for her but… come on, she just got shot, there’s a lot of stuff going on, let’s not talk about our feelings right now.”

Beckett was shot while speaking at the funeral of Captain Roy Montgomery, who was killed by someone tied to the unsolved murder of Beckett’s mother. Earlier in the episode it was revealed that Montgomery had a connection to the murder, but had kept it a secret from Beckett.

Figuring out the details of her mother’s murder is Beckett’s priority, says Katic, and the reason why she doesn’t want to admit she heard Castle say he loves her or admit her own feelings for him.

“She knows that she cares for him but doesn’t want to ruin it by being that girl who’s half in and half out of a relationship. She wants to make sure that she brings closure to the murder that has been haunting her for so long,” says Katic.

“It seems to me that she’s the kind of girl that once she gets into a relationship she’s going to create a future with this person, maybe even have children with this person and it seems, at least from what I’ve learned, she’s quite in love with Castle.”

Even though Beckett is determined to get to the bottom of her mother’s murder, she doesn’t know that Castle plans to do everything he can to keep her from doing just that in order to protect her, as he believes she is still in danger.

Static says these secrets have set up an interesting dynamic for the show this season.

“These two characters individually are pretty great but when they join forces, they’re extraordinary, they’re unbeatable and you see that in their crime solving skills but even in their future and the life they could have… If they were actually capable of sitting there and saying, ‘OK, I have a secret that I have to tell you and I’m so sorry I’m just holding out because I don’t want you to get hurt’ they might be able to come to the right problem solving method and actually get together and make it happen.”

They also might be able to finally find some happiness together, which would be welcomed by Katic.

“I hate these shows that wait for seven years to get their characters to get together and then suddenly the season finale is some stupid wedding episode,” she says with a laugh.

“Maybe it’s my naïve romantic side that believes people in a relationship are still interesting and there’s still conflict and there’s still risks… so I think there’s a lot of opportunity even if the two characters were to get together.”
