‘CBGB’ Trailer: Go Inside ‘The Greatest Rock Club Ever’
After months of teaser posters and on-set photos, CBGB, Randall Miller‘s forthcoming film chronicling the rise of New York’s famed punk rock music venue, is finally letting audiences inside the club with an official trailer. See The Hollywood Reporter‘s exclusive first look in the player above.
Alan Rickman leads an all-star cast as Hilly Kristal, the financially unstable entrepreneur who opened the iconic club in 1973. CBGB, which stands for “Country Bluegrass Blues,” ultimately closed in 2006 over a rent dispute, but lives on as the largest music festival in New York City.
“Why would you save for your dreams?” asks Rickman, as Kristal, in the trailer. “Why not live your dreams?”
Among the acts teased in the preview are Talking Heads, Blondie, The Ramones, Dead Boys, The Police, Iggy Pop and Patti Smith Group, among others. Malin Akerman, Rupert Grint, Ashley Greene, Johnny Galecki, Ryan Hurst, Justin Bartha, Donal Logue and Bradley Whitford are among the film’s stars.
The trailer ends on a kicker: “50,000 bands and 1 disgusting bathroom.”
CBGB has yet to secure an official theatrical release date, but is expected to hit the big screen later this fall. The film is produced by Unclaimed Freight and will be distributed in the U.S. by XLrator Media.
